Tech Tips for NoteSwift for Allscripts Professional

Using the Alias Utility

The NoteSwift Alias feature allows you to dictate terms you’re familiar with, such as “COPD” instead of “Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.”

Here’s how to use the Alias feature:

From the NoteSwift form called ROS Template:

  • Say “Alias”
  • Say <the name of your Alias>
  • Select the desired template from your Template pull-down menu.
  • Say “Done”
  • Voila! A new Template Alias is ready to go!

Searching by Voice

To carry out a search for a diagnosis, for example, simply say the name of the diagnosis and NoteSwift will find the term in the EHR.

If you dictate a term that does not exist in the EHR, NoteSwift signals this by highlighting the term in blue. For example, if you say “high blood pressure” and NoteSwift returns high blood pressure, it means that term is not contained in the EHR database. In this case, simply dictate a new term (“hypertension”) over the highlighted selection to execute a new search. If hypertension is in the EHR database, NoteSwift will find it, and add it to your patient documentation.

Controlling the Appearance of Your Patient Documentation

options

You can control how documentation appears in certain sections of the patient encounter. For example, you can set it to show abnormal findings in ALL CAPS.

Using NoteSwift commands:

  1. Click on the Options button.
  2. Click Exam. Make sure the “All Caps Abnormal Findings” option is checked.
  3. Click Save to save the settings.

From this point on, any abnormal findings in the Exam section will appear in all caps in your documentation.

Applying a Review of Systems Template from a Patient’s Last Visit

  1. Say “ROS Template”
NoteSwift will bring up all your templates.
  2. Say “Last Visit”
NoteSwift finds the patient’s last visit and highlights it for you in the list.
  3. Say “Done”
